When I got engaged and first began planning my wedding, I’ll admit my first call was rather unconventional. Once we had chosen a date, I informed my fiancé Mike that I would be calling a photographer to find out whether or not he was available. He rolled his eyes but already knew this would be my course of action. Three years prior while perusing Facebook, I happened upon a friend of a friend’s (you know how that goes…) wedding photographs. I was instantly enamored. Being a child of the 80’s when I thought of wedding photography, my mind immediately created a collage of a million cheesy posed shots ( the “why don’t you hold his hand while lovingly gazing into his eyes” sort…) which while lovely in their own right, just weren’t my thing. So, to make a long story short, these epic images belonged to none other than Anthony Vazquez, circa 2005.

I vowed that when I got engaged, Anthony would be my wedding photographer. Having always been a lover of photography, the combination of AV’s simply beautiful, timeless images and spirited ‘high-fashion’ ones was something that truly spoke to me. Now, with a boyfriend of a couple months this little vow was a lovely idea but in reality? Highly unlikely.

As I followed his work throughout the years, AV’s images began to get exponentially more spectacular and inspired. But when the Jonas brothers appeared on his ever-growing list of high-profile clientele, I was crushed. I almost didn’t bother calling AV when I finally got engaged, imagining a conversation where he gently (or perhaps not gently…???) would tell me didn’t shoot the wedding of mere mortals such as myself J. When I did summon the courage to call him (probably about 48 hours after I was engaged, but who’s counting…) I was met with a fabulous energy on the other end of the phone encouraging me to bring my fiancé in for a meeting to discuss our wedding. And as the cliché goes, “the rest is history”.
Stay tuned next month as I take you through the challenge of finding “the dress”!
xoxo
